Obituary

Mr. Rex Campbell was born in Isney, Alabama on June 3, 1941, to Inez and Mance Columbus Campbell, Sr. Rex transitioned to his Heavenly home on April 28, 2023, following an illness.

Rex began his life as the seventh child and second son of the family. He grew up on a farm, which grew livestock and produce cotton, corn, sugar cane, a huge vegetable garden, timber, etc.  This was the beginning of his lifelong journey as a farmer.  Under the tutelage of his father, “Mr. Mance”, as he was affectionately called, Rex worked on the farm and attended grade school at Emery Carroll whereby he walked daily with his other siblings and friends and later attended Melvin High School, in Melvin, Alabama.  Rex enjoyed his days at both learning institutions.  As time passed, his focus changed to assisting with the laborious chores of farming and assuming the role of becoming the “Caretaker” of his family.  When Mr. Mance’s health began to deteriorate, Rex knew his name was being called to move to the next level of his life.

Our brother was introduced and accepted God at a young age.  Long years ago, children didn’t have an abundance of recreational activities, but for sure, there was – The Church.  He understood and recognized the supreme power of the Lord and lived out his longevity living as a “True Christian”.

On this day a Trumpet sounded a harmonious choir and extended hands signaled Rex to join with others in his family who he loved. Awaiting his arrival are: his parents, Inez and Mance Campbell; sisters, Lucille Everitte, Maxine Sledge and Voncille Wilbert; brothers-in-law, Christian Sledge, Jerry C. Everitte, John Wilbert, Robert Ritchie, William Alvin Gilmore, Sr., Henry Yarbrough, Robert Tyner and Morgan Gray; sister-in-law, Virginia Campbell; nieces, Carolyn Everitte and Earnestine Yates; nephew, Donald Everitte.

He leaves to mourn his passing: siblings, Eunice Ritchie of Long Beach, California, Inez Levern Gilmore of Detroit, Michigan, Mance Columbus Campbell, Jr. of Laurel, Mississippi, Christine Yarbrough of Galloway, New Jersey, Dr. Delois Campbell  of Absecon, New Jersey, Ruby Campbell of Isney, Alabama, Mary Alice Gray of Waynesboro, Mississippi; nieces and nephews, Lela Everitte, Catherine Howard (Horace), William Alvin Gilmore, Jr., Shugana Williams (LeThunder) and Shewana Gamblin; and a host of cousins; extended family and friends.
