On May 2, 1959 in Waynesboro, MS, Oscar Blakley, Jr. was born to the late Oscar J.II and Sylvia (Taylor) Blakley. At an early age, he joined Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church.
Oscar attended Buckatunna School and graduated in 1977. He continued his education at Jones Junior College, where he graduated in 1979. He had a love for basketball and played throughout his school years.
After completing junior college, Oscar began working for Northern Electric. He later became employed with Independent Life Insurance Company and remained in the insurance business for 30 years until his retirement. He was also a bail bondsman for 28 years and an Alderman for the Town of Shubuta for 12 years. He was zealous about helping people.
On November 17, 1984, he united in holy matrimony to Chundra Carter. They resided in the Pleasant Grove-Hiwannee community.
Oscar departed this life on October 19, 2023 at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, MS. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Verta Patton, and three nieces: Shyketla Carter-Datcher, Sheila Carter, and Tori Hoze-Miles.
Oscar leaves to cherish sweet memories to his devoted wife, Chundra Blakley; his loving children: sons Dejuan Blakley and Ryan Blakley; his daughter, Shanna Blakley; four sisters: Glenda (Henry) Hardy, Elder Sherrel Caver, Pastor Mildred (Bonnie) Gandy and Karol (Wayne) Barlow; one brother: Milton (Vanessa) Blakley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 28, 2023 at 1:00 PM at Philadelphia MB Church in Buckatunna, MS, with Rev. Willie Kinslow officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
There will be a viewing period Friday, October 27, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Turner Funeral Home.
