Minnie Pearl Smith

MRS. MINNIE PEARL SMITH was born on September 13, 1947 in Clarke County, MS to the union of Willie Owens and Olivia Manning. She worked at Burlington Industries for 35 years until operations ceased at the plant. She also worked at Warm Craft for a period of time. She was later employed as a custodian at Wal Mart. 
 

Mrs. Smith transitioned from her earthly voyage to one of eternity on April 5, 2023 at her home, after a hard time fighting her illness. 
 

MS. MINNIE attended Pearlie Grove Baptist Church until her health failed. She attended Shirley Owens High School in Quitman, MS.  She was a hard worker and enjoyed taking walks in her spare time.  She did not meet a stranger and was one to speak her mind at any given moment. 
 

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister:  Creola Williams; two brothers:  Rev. Bennie Blakley and Lee Chester Lang, all of California; one granddaughter:  Tawanna Owens, and one great grandson:  Jakarrius Owens, both of Quitman, MS. 
 

She leaves cherished and precious memories filled with love and laughter to one daughter:  Shelia Owens, and two sons:  JT Thomas, Jr. and Antwain Thomas, all of Quitman, MS; one sister:  Clara Sharpe of Ocean Springs, MS; three brothers:  Eddie (Haregu) Blakley, Billy Joe (Michelle) Owens, and Rev. Lorenzo (Cathy) Carter; seven grandchildren:  Sherika, DeAgura, Radarius (Jessica), Raven, JeQuesha, Jakayla, and Jazz; nine great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and a special friend, Nya Johnson. 
 

Funeral services will take place Monday, April 10, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Little Zion Cemetery in Stonewall, MS. There will be a wake for Mrs. Smith Sunday, April 9, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Pearlie Grove Baptist Church in Quitman, MS.
