Mildred Virginia "Mamie” West passed away peacefully on the 2nd of March, 2024, in Waynesboro, MS, at the age of 75 at her residence. She was born December 27, 1948, in Quitman, Georgia. Mamie dedicated her life to her family, instilling values of love, kindness, and hard work.
A diligent worker from a young age, Mamie toiled in the tobacco fields of her native Valdosta before moving to Mississippi, where she served many years as a devoted housekeeper and nanny. Upon retirement, she carried the same sense of dedication and care into her personal pursuits.
Mamie was a lifelong member of Chapel Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she found spiritual solace and community. Her leisure time was joyously spent knitting, gardening, fishing, and indulging in her passion for western and staying informed with current events.
Her legacy will be cherished and remembered by her sister, Leola Stringfield of Waynesboro, MS; brother, Collis (Flora) Stringfield, of Columbus, GA; daughters: Latonya Graves, Balorie (Walter) Baber, Beverly Pittman, Tiffany (Tony) Cooley, Tori Davis, Kimberly (Mike) Ford, Heather (Tony) Haley; sons:
Jermaine (Stephanie) West, Christopher (Sonya) West, and Brad (Charlene) Ramey; twenty-five grandchildren, Twenty-seven great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and five step grandchildren. A host of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Mamie was greeted in death by her beloved Husband, Sonny West; Mother, Goldie Bell Stringfield, father, Willie Stringfield, brother, Willie Stringfield Jr., Daughter; Gayle Payton Gaines; sisters, Floretta Ashely, Willie Mae Horn, Deloris Stringfield, and Rachel West. Also six of her grandchildren: Latessia, Samantha, and Sam R. McDonald, Eric West, and Brandauis Davis.
Turner Funeral Home in Waynesboro has been entrusted with the arrangement. In Mamie's memory, her family invites loved ones to share in celebration of her life, reflecting on the joy and care she brought to everyone she touched.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 8, 2024 at 2:30 PM at Chapel Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. Chris West as the eulogist. Interment will follow at Serenity Gardens Cemetery.
There will be a viewing period Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 12:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Turner Funeral Home.
