Lessie Dennis Obituary

MRS. LESSIE MAE  “Minnie” DENNIS passed away in the comfort of her home on Wednesday, January 4th, 2023 at the age of 80. LESSIE was born on December 17, 1942 in Langsdale, MS to the late Mary (nee Kirksey) Clark and Verdie Clark, Sr.  The eldest daughter of ten children, LESSIE attended Mt. Levy Elementary School in Matherville, MS and graduated from Shirley Owens High School in Quitman, MS.

Lessie Mae married the late Samuel L. Dennis and relocated with him to Chicago, IL, where they raised their family and managed a record and TV store. Later on, Lessie worked at Sears and as a security guard at O’Hare International Airport and retired at the age of 65.

Lessie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, attending family reunions whenever possible. She loved holidays with her family and trips to the casino with her aunt. Full of joy, kindness, and laughter, she loved making homemade food-her banana pudding and peach cobbler will be sorely missed.

Last but not least, she was an avid reader and instilled this passion in her granddaughter. Lessie was a central figure in the lives of her children and grandchildren, giving them love and support whenever they needed it. Her sons and daughter reciprocated this love by caring for their mother as she grew older and providing for her every need. Lessie was surrounded with love by her family until the very end.

Lessie was preceded in death by her parents:  Verdie, Sr. and Mary, her sister:   Earlie (Clark) Thornton, brother:  Jimmie Lee Clark, and grandson:  Paris Jamal Clark.

Her memory will forever be cherished and honored by numerous relatives including her daughter, Denise Renee Clark; sons Jeffery Dennis and Kevin Dennis; granddaughter Monique Clark and her husband Lance; grandson Darnell Clark along with his wife and daughter Kara and Niaya Clark respectively; grandsons Quentin Clark and Melek Dennis and great grandchildren:  Violet Dennis and Maxwell Dennis.

Lessie will be warmly remembered and loved by her brothers and sisters:  Lucille Clark, Verone Clark, Leola Clark, L. C. Clark, Lester B. Clark, Fred Clark, Verdie Clark, and Sandy Clark.
