“GONE FROM US THAT SMILING FACE, THE CHEERFUL PLEASANT WAYS; THE HEART THAT WON SO MANY FRIENDS IN BYGONE, HAPPY DAYS, A LIFE MADE BEAUTIFUL BY KINDLY DEEDS; A HELPING HAND FOR OTHERS’ NEEDS, TO A BEAUTIFUL LIFE COMES A HAPPY END, HE DIED AS HE LIVED, EVERYONE’S FRIEND. TAKE YOUR REST, JERRY SR.!”
On Tuesday morning, September 26, 2023 around 8:32 AM with his wife Alice by his side, the angels came into Jerry’s room at HC Watkins Oschner Hospital and quietly took him to his eternal home. Jerry Jones was born October 5, 1949 to Mildred Jones and Will Evans. His parents, one son, Infant Kelvin Jones, along with three siblings: Alice Ruth, Willie B., and Jessie Jones, all preceded him in death.
JERRY united in Holy Matrimony to Alice Conner on January 16, 1971 and to this union four children were born. Throughout Jerry’s adult life, he had always worked to support his family with jobs such as: Southern Household, Longbell Lumber Co., Kirkland Hardware, and Archusa Water Park.
But the job he loved and treasured the most was that of a husband, father, and grandfather to his family.
JERRY was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church, where he served as a Steward and a Trustee.
JERRY leaves to cherish his memories: his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Alice; three children: Latonya (Greg) Cole, Alicia Jones, and Jerry Jones, Jr.; four grandchildren: Latondra, Tyler, Eryka and Gregory; five great grandchildren; three brothers: Tom (Bonnie) Jones, Johnny Ray Jones, and Milton (Alberta) Jones; one sister: Mary Plummer and a very special cousin, Charlene (James) Parker; three sisters in law: Carrie Sterling, Mary Mitchell, and Dessie Conner; two brothers in law: J. D. Conner and Ed Willie Conner; a good family friend, Tavonia Henderson, along with the Bethel UM Church Family.
Funeral services will be held Friday, September 29, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Bethel United Methodist Church in the DeSoto community (Shubuta), with Pastor Renae Dawkins officiating. Interment will follow at New Hope Cemetery, also in DeSoto.
There will be a viewing period Friday, September 29, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Bethel United Methodist Church.
