Jack Shumac Obituary

Jack Lloyd Shumac, 71, of Springfield, formerly of Chicago, passed away at 9:59 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Aperion Care Capitol.

He was born in Chicago, IL, on March 9, 1952, the son of Walter Shumac, Jr. and Annie Ruth (Leverette) Shumac.

He met his partner, Pamela Brassel, in Chicago, IL, where they created 40 years of joyful memories and loving celebrations.

Jack was preceded in death by his father, Walter Shumac, Jr.; and niece, Grace Ann.

He is survived by his mother, Annie Ruth Shumac of Stateline, MS; longtime partner, Pam; siblings: June Jones of IL, Vonciel (Charles) Hill of TX, Walter (Marla) Shumac, Ill of TX; as well as nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jack grew up in Chicago and was a graduate of Chicago State University.

He attended University of Chicago and earned his MBA from Roosevelt University. Jack was a loving husband and partner, mentor, son, brother, and friend. He was kind, dependable, and had a great sense of humor.

His hobbies included studying African American History, WWII History, and he achievements of Black Americans like his father, Walter Shumac, Jr., hom as a veteran served his country with valor during the Korean War. ack admired both his parents and they were his heroes along with other ilblazers that paved a path for him. His greatest love was for his family.

Jack was a fan of the Chicago Bears and he enjoyed debating, football, politics. He enjoyed traveling and chess.

Memorial services were held Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 11:30 AM at Pleasant Ridge U. M.  Church in State Line, MS with Rev. Walter Shumac, III officiating.
