Christopher Van Southerland was born on January 16, 1971 to Vanderbilt Southerland & Mary Henry Southerland Nwoke in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He is one of eight children; two brothers, Vanderbilt Southerland Jr. and Steven Southerland (preceded in death by both), and 5 sisters, Pamela Henry Eason (Terry), Valarie Southerland Norman (Durwood), Vanessa Southerland Hassell (Jay), Sonya Henry Harris (Tony) (preceded in death) and Vernell Southerland Ricks (preceded in death).
Mr. Southerland graduated from Franklin High School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration at St. Leo University in Florida. Mr. Southerland passed away June 18, 2023 at his home in Buckatunna, MS.
He leaves to cherish his memories his former wife; Yomeka Southerland. Christopher is the father to Nondi Southerland, Christopher R. Southerland (preceded in death), Takeia Mason, Kriseana Southerland, Christian Southerland, Jerrard Carter, Kaylen Mayfield, Yakeira Carter, Marquis Carter, and Rakeya Carter. He had 6 grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He will truly be missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Southerland enlisted in the United States Navy and served several years prior to reenlisting in the United States Army where he served until his retirement. He was also the owner of Southerland Enterprise LLC.
He was a man full of life, knowledge and wisdom who was very business minded and the life of the party. When he set his mind to do something, he was always determined to reach that goal even until the very end.
Funeral services have been entrusted to Turner Funeral Home (Waynesboro, MS) and Walter Sanders Funeral Home & Cremation (Smithfield, NC).
Services: Thursday June 29, 2023 at Greater Vision Worship Center COG 3245 US Hwy 70 East;Smithfield, NC 27577 starting at 1:00 pm.
