Brother Charlie Hinton was born on August 31, 1927, to the late Horace and Mollie McDodd Hinton in the Kittrell Community of Perry County, MS. After God granted him years far beyond what was promised at the seasoned age of 95 years old, he departed his earthly home on Friday night, July 14, 2023 at approximately 9:30 p.m. at his residence in Moss Point (Escatawpa), MS.
He joined Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of the Late Dr. Wilmer L. Carter and remained a life-long member until his demise. He attended faithfully until his health declined.
He was reared and educated in Perry County and worked diligently in the pulpwood business until he enlisted in the U. S Navy on August 10, 1945. He was able to serve 4 months and13 days, but due to medical circumstances beyond his control he was honorably discharged on December 22, 1945. After being discharged from the military he became employed with Masonite International Corporation of Laurel, MS, later Hood Industries (Delta Pine) of Beaumont, MS and finally Ingalls Shipbuilding of Pascagoula, MS until his retirement.
Brother Charlie was an active member of Beaumont Masonic Lodge #577. He had a strong passion for this organization and served well until his health declined.
“Papa Charlie,” as we refer to him; met and married “Mu” the love of his life in 1977, the Late Floretta Hugger Hinton as they both were meant for each other; they displayed a divine compassion for each other as they were united together until her demise in 2015.
His favorite pastime was just being with family and spending precious moments with his grandchildren of which he loved dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Floretta Hugger Hinton, son; Charles Hugger, son-in-law; Reverend Wilmer James Carter, One sister; Rosie Evans, Two brothers; Leroy Hinton and Eddie Hinton. Two nephews; Willie C. Merrill, Ned Merrill, Jr., and One niece; Rosie Lee Dantzler.
He leaves to forever cherish his loving memories: One daughter, Ms. Loretta Carter of Hattiesburg, MS; One sister, Ms. Annie Lee Merrill of Hattiesburg, MS.; Two nieces, Ms. Naomi Bolton of Beaumont, MS and Ms. Melvie Jean Moody of Kennesaw, GA. Two devoted friends of over 40 years, Mr. Roy Milton Free and Mr. George Busby both of Escatawpa, MS., a host of grand-children and great-grandchildren, several great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. His gentle spirit and loving heart will be missed by all that knew him but his memory will linger forever.
Funeral services will occur Saturday, July 22, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Greater Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church in Beaumont, MS, with Pastor John W. Carter officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
