Barbara Jean (Dease) Thomas was born in 1934 to the late Quinties Dease and Felina “Pauline” Nobles Ashe in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She is the granddaughter of the late Caleb and Vallie Nobles. She moved to Chicago when she was approximately 5 years old. She spent a lot of summers in Pleasant Grove visiting her grandmother and other family members. She attended Chicago public schools and graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1953.
She married the late Rolland Thomas on June 5, 1955. To this union were born two sons.
She graduated from Olive-Harvey Community College with an Associates of Arts degree. She went on to Chicago State University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987 in Psychology, and a Master of Science degree in 1993 in Guidance/Counseling.
She is also preceded in death by a special aunt, Mary Alice “Tal” Gray of Waynesboro, MS and her half sister Gladys Comar of Cleveland, OH. She leaves her loving memories to be cherished by her two sons: Farrade Thomas of Tallahassee, FL and Zorien R. Thomas of Chicago, IL, along with a special cousin, Sadie Pearl Gray, among many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 7, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Pleasant Grove MB Church in Waynesboro, with Rev. Marvin Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
There will be a viewing period for Mrs. Thomas today, October 6, 2023, from 2:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Turner Funeral Home.
