Mrs. Augustine Gandy was born on July 12, 1941 to the union of the late Julius and Edan Holley of the Hiwannee community in Waynesboro, MS. In God’s timing, she transitioned from her earthly life on Monday, March 28, 2022 at her residence in Waynesboro, MS.
At an early age, she joined the New Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in the Hiwannee community and moved her membership to the St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Waynesboro, MS later in life.
Augustine Holley was joined in holy matrimony to Mr. Eonzie Gandy. To this union, eight children were born. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, mother and father, four sisters, four brothers, one sister-in-law, six brothers-in-law, and one great great grandchild.
Augustine’s love and laughter will continue through her five daughters: Sandra (William) Arrington of Shubuta, MS, Carolyn Barboza and Delilah Moore Sumlin of Waynesboro MS, Annie Martin of Jonesboro, GA, and Shirley (Michael) White of Tuscaloosa, AL; two sons, Vaughn (Tasha) Gandy of Waynesboro, MS and Johnny Gandy of Richton, MS.
She also leaves to cherish her memories three sisters: Mary Howze and Clara Holley of Shubuta, MS, Vera Powe of New Orleans, LA, and one brother: Michael Holley of Waynesboro, MS. She also had five sisters-in-law, Jona Bentley of Detroit MI, Arletha Nelson, Joyce Pankey, and Betty Mae Gandy of Waynesboro MS, and Mary C. Holley of Shubuta MS; seven brothers-in-law: Robert (Ola) Gandy, Houston (June) Gandy, Bobby Joe (Kathy) Gandy, James (Lane) Gandy, Will (Juanita) Gandy, Kenneth (Tonya) Gandy, and MacArthur Gandy all of Waynesboro MS.
Her memories will continue through her twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, several children that she took as her own, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 2, 2022 at 11:00 AM at St. John Missionary Baptist Church in Waynesboro MS, with Pastor Rayford Matthews as the officiant. Interment followed at the church cemetery.
There was a viewing period for Mrs. Gandy on Friday m, April 1, 2022 from 12:00 noon until 6:00 PM at Turner Funeral Home.
